Barry Sheerman has nominated David Miliband to lead the Labour Party. . He said of the Shadow Foreign Secretary; "As former Chair of the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee, I have seen a fair few education  ministers give evidence. However, no one was so impressive as David. He has been Secretary of State for three different departments and in each one has shown he has experience, maturity and an ability to lead. He is an excellent communicator, whether it be at the Dispatch Box or through the media, but he also has something that all leaders need; compassion and a willingness and desire to talk to and to learn from others. I am proud to nominate him as my choice to take our party forward."
