Barry Sheerman tabled a question to the Department for Communities and Local Government asking the Government whether there are plans for for mandatory checks to be made on household gas appliances, to reduce the number of deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning. This ties in closely with the support that Mr Sheerman gives to the Dominic Rodgers Trust, which Mr Sheerman helped build with local campaigner, Stacey Rodgers whose ten year old son Dominic, died of carbon monoxide poisoning in 2004. Mr Sheerman said: "I promised Stacey I would never give up on the campaign and so keep pushing it. I will never stop my efforts to make people more aware of the silent killer."
